COA inspection checklist

A printable checklist for comparing a peptide certificate of analysis with the specific material and lot in your laboratory record.

A certificate of analysis describes the sample and tests shown on that document. Work through each item before relying on it for a particular lot. Mark anything absent or unclear for follow-up; do not infer a result that the document does not report.

  1. Document identity

Record the title, report or certificate number, issuing organization, issue date, and version or revision if shown.

  2. Material identity

Compare the material name, form, and stated amount with the product and package label. Note any difference rather than treating similar names as identical.

  3. Lot or batch match

Compare the lot or batch identifier on the report with the identifier on the received item. Record both if they differ or one is missing.

  4. Sample and scope

Identify the sample tested and the tests actually reported. A report for one sample or lot does not establish results for another.

  5. Methods and results

For each reported test, capture the method, result, units, and any stated specification or acceptance range. Do not assume an unstated threshold.

  6. Dates and revisions

Record sample, test, issue, and revision dates when supplied. If a document was replaced, retain which version your team reviewed.

  7. Missing information

List absent, unreadable, or inconsistent fields and the clarification requested. Leave the result unresolved until your laboratory can assess it.

  8. Record decision

Record the reviewer, review date, document location, and your laboratory’s disposition under its own procedure.
